About the Art

Maurice Whitman’s evocative cover for Ghost Comics #10 captures the macabre essence of 1950s pre-Code horror. Dominated by a skeletal specter and a vivid depiction of fiery torment, the artwork employs bold, swirling greens and reds to create an unsettling atmosphere. The central figure—a woman in peril—reflects the era’s fascination with vulnerability amid supernatural chaos.

Fiction House’s emphasis on suspenseful storytelling is evident in this issue’s lead tale, “The Ghost of the Gorgon,” which reimagines classical mythology through a modern lens. Whitman’s intricate linework and dramatic contrasts underscore the cultural anxieties of post-war America, blending myth and menace seamlessly.
