Dick Briefer (1915-1980) was a pioneering American comic book artist and writer, renowned for his innovative adaptations of Frankenstein. Trained at the Art Students League in New York, Briefer entered the comic industry in 1936, working for various publishers. His most notable creation, the “New Adventures of Frankenstein,” debuted in 1940, marking America’s first ongoing horror comic series. Briefer’s Frankenstein evolved from horrific to humorous, showcasing his versatile artistic style and storytelling prowess.
